# News

> Review investment updates, action items, reminders, and supporting documents in one place

## Overview

News brings investment updates into one review page. Use it to see what happened, which holdings are affected, whether action is needed, and which documents support the update.

## Before you start

Make sure you are reviewing the right organisation. For action items, check the source document before relying on a summary or reminder date.

## Basic and advanced use

* **Basic use**: review updates, action flags, expected dates, and supporting documents.
* **Advanced use**: triage critical items, add calendar reminders, review investment-level context, and clean up stale items.

## What you can see

The News page is split into a triage queue on the left and a detail panel on the right. It shows:

* Triage tabs — **Needs action**, **Upcoming**, **Done**, and **All** — with item counts.
* Due pills on each item: overdue, due soon, a due date, or **FYI** for informational items.
* Unread markers for items you have not opened yet.
* Expected dates and action-by dates.
* Linked investments and source material.
* Summaries, impact notes, suggested actions, and supporting documents.

## Review news

1. Open **News** from the main menu.
2. Start on the **Needs action** tab — overdue and due-soon items carry red and amber pills.
3. Search by holding, topic, action, or impact. You can also type filters such as `importance:high` or `event:dividend`.
4. Select an item to review it in the detail panel. Opening a new item marks it as reviewed.
5. Read the summary, impact analysis, and suggested action.
6. Open the linked investment or source if you need more context.
7. When the work is done, select **Mark actioned**. If the item does not need a response, select **Ignore** instead. Both move the item to the **Done** tab; use **Reopen** if you need to bring it back.
8. Use **Add to workspace** to start a Planning Workspace discussion from the news item. The composer opens prefilled with the linked investment and the news title.

On iPhone and iPad, use the **Needs action**, **Upcoming**, **Done**, and **All** segments to move through the same triage queue. Items that have not been opened show a blue dot, while due labels separate overdue, next-seven-day, and later work. Use **Sort** and choose **Action by** to bring the earliest deadlines to the top.

Each mobile card includes quick actions to mark work as actioned, add a calendar event, share the update, or open its linked investment. Select the card for the full detail sheet, where you can follow the **New**, **Reviewed**, and **Actioned** status, review the suggested action and potential impact, open supporting documents, ignore or reopen an item, and delete news that is no longer needed.

## Understand the labels

* **Importance** shows how much attention the item may need.
* **Event type** describes the kind of update, such as AGM, distribution, capital call, valuation, or market update.
* **Corporate action and distribution** items can include scheduled stock splits and dividends. These show the expected date and the linked investment.
* **Action required** means someone should review, decide, respond, vote, monitor, or update records.
* **Status** tracks each item through **New**, **Reviewed**, and then **Actioned** or **Ignored**. New items show an unread dot in the queue.
* **Date added** is when the news item was recorded in EveryWealth.
* **Expected date** is when the event is expected to happen.
* **Action by** is the date a response or decision is due.
* **Confirmed** shows whether the update has been confirmed.

## Use supporting documents

Some news items include documents. Open a document to preview it in the side panel, or use **Open** or **Download** when you need to review it separately.

Use supporting documents to verify:

* Announcement details.
* Distribution or dividend timing.
* Voting or response requirements.
* Valuation or portfolio impact.
* Source material for client or committee notes.

## Calendar reminders

When a news item has a useful reminder date, you may see **Calendar** in the item actions.

Use it to add a reminder for:

* Action deadlines.
* AGMs.
* Capital calls.
* Corporate actions.
* Distributions.
* Governance or regulatory events.
* Valuation events.

If your calendar is not connected, EveryWealth will guide you to connect or reconnect it.

## Delete a news item

Use **Delete** when a news item is no longer needed. Deleting the news item removes it from the News page, but linked documents are kept.

## News on an investment

Individual investment pages can also show recent external headlines and market context for that holding. Use those headlines for background research, then rely on the News page for tracked updates, action items, documents, and reminders.
